BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon has said “what if” in an emotional announcement ahead of the live arena tour.Angela, the show’s oldest contestant in history, will dance on the live arena tour alongside pro Kai Widdrington, with the first live show on Friday in Birmingham.
BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Angela spoke to the press at the Utilita Arena on Thursday.
She said that she is in the best shape of her life and her experience has reawakened her love of dancing – and answered her ‘what if?’ moment.
“I suppose the thing I’m looking forward to most is the fact that I can keep dancing,” the 79-year-old said.
“I stopped going to dance classes when I was 17.
I stopped because I had to knuckle down to my O-levels.
I’ve only done sort of party tricks since.
“Doing Strictly for five months reawakened in me how much I love to dance.
And to have the chance to do something I haven’t done for 60 years, I’ve just enjoyed so much.
But it makes you think… do I wish that at some point I’d said, ‘I can always go back to being a reporter.
I want to dance’?
“And I’m doing it now.
I don’t care how late it’s come in my career.
I’m loving it.
So many people go through life with a ‘what-if’ moment – through Strictly now I get to scratch that itch.” Angela was one of the three contestants announced first for the live tour.
She reached Blackpool alongside Kai before being voted out in week eight.
Craig Revel Horwood said: “What better way to start the new year than with the Strictly Live Tour!
It’s going to be gorgeous to be back on the road with Shirley, Anton, and Janette.
“Joining us to entertain you all will be an A-MAZ-ING line-up of celebrities and professional dancers from this year’s series.
And, as you would expect, we will have a few extra special surprises in store for the arena audiences along the way.
“One word, three syllables – FAB-U-LOUS!”
